Ethical Culture Survey
Since 2010, the ICO has conducted a biennial survey to assess the university community's awareness of ethics and compliance resources, perceptions of integrity and compliance in the workplace, and comfort level related to raising concerns. The survey helps to identify and measure drivers of ethical conduct, opportunities to strengthen our workplace culture, and effectiveness of VCU’s Ethics and Compliance Program.
Here are a few examples of how survey results have been put into practice over the years:
- The creation of the Policy Points newsletter email to inform employees of new and revised policies
- An increased focus on training on speaking up, non-retaliation, psychological safety and manager responsibilities for handling employee concerns
- Training that is more engaging, more succinct and more frequent
2019 Ethical Culture and Perceptions Survey
Noted throughout the 2019 Ethical Culture & Perspectives Survey are benchmark statistics from both prior years and the Global Business Ethics Survey (GBES) — the leading longitudinal, cross-sectional study of workplace conduct from the employee’s perspective — conducted by the Ethics & Compliance Initiative (ECI).
